Please meet Sonia Cillari, an amazing artist in constant approach to body digital representation and interaction.
Italian media artist and architect, currently lives and works in Venice. Her work involves the creation of sensorial and perceptual mechanisms in immersive and augmented environments. Her artistic investigation examines how patterns of consciousness, perception and identity emerge in such settings. Over the last years she has been specifically interested in a field of research concerning the ‘Body as Interface’.
She has been artist in residence at Rijksakademie van beeldende kunsten, Netherlands Media Art Institute/NIMk, STEIM: Studio for Electro-Instrumental Music, M4gastatelier (Amsterdam), V2_, Institute for the Unstable Media (Rotterdam), [ars]numerica (Montbeliard) and Claudio Buziol Foundation (Venice).
Her interactive installations, which are at the intersection of architecture and performance art, have been exhibited and presented internationally. She received the ‘First Prize’ at VIDA 13.0: Art & Artificial Life International Competition (Madrid 2010), the ‘Art Division Excellence Award’ at the 11th Japan Media Arts Festival (Tokyo 2007), the ‘Honorary Mentions’ at Prix Ars Electronica – Interactive Art (Linz 2011 and 2007) and VIDA 9.0 (Madrid 2006).
Among others, she has been a teacher at the Frank Mohr Institute – Minerva Art Academy, Master IME Interactive Media and Environments (Groningen 2007-2013) and she has been part of the core group of Optofonica Laboratory for Immersive ArtScience (Amsterdam 2010-2011).
Jury member of Prix Ars Electronica – Interactive Art (Linz 2008), Prix Ars Electronica – Hybrid Art (Linz 2009) and CYNETART competition (Dresden 2010).
